Michael Owusu Addo, known professionally as Sarkodie, is a Ghanaian rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur, a hip hop and hiplife artist, performing in English and Twi, and contributing to the rise of Azonto.
Born the fourth of five children, he grew up in Tema, attended Tema Methodist Day Senior High School, and later earned a degree in graphic design from IPMC College of Technology. He began as an underground rapper, gaining exposure through Adom FM’s Kasahare Level competition, where he met Duncan Williams, Edem, and Castro, leading to an introduction to producer Hammer of The Last Two and recording opportunities.
His debut album "Makye" (2009) launched his career, followed by "Rapperholic," "Sarkology," "Highest, Black Love," "No Pressure," and "Jamz." His accolades include VGMA Artiste of the Decade, BET Best International Flow (2019), and BET Best International Act: Africa (2012). Beyond music, he founded Sark by Yas and has secured major brand endorsements.
