Bio
Jan Johannes Marthinus de Wet, born in 1950 in Harrismith, grew up in a pastor’s home and later studied education and theology before serving as a Dutch Reformed minister. His musical journey began early, gaining momentum in the 1970s with the duo Jan en Marti, whose songs helped spark Afrikaans praise music. Over time he released more than sixty albums, hosted radio and TV programmes, and became well known for children’s ministry through Lofkleuters and related projects. His work earned awards including a SAMA for Via Dolorosa, and many of his songs were recorded by leading Afrikaans artists. Married to Jeanette, with three children, he remains admired for shaping contemporary Afrikaans gospel music.
