Method Man, born Clifford Smith Jr. in Hempstead, Long Island, New York, became a figure in hip-hop as a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan. The group’s 1993 debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), introduced his distinctive voice and charismatic delivery to a national audience. His solo career began with Tical (1994), which reached the Billboard 200’s top five.
He later released Tical 2000: Judgement Day, Tical 0: The Prequel, 4:21… The Day After, The Meth Lab, Meth Lab Season 2: The Lithium, and Meth Lab Season 3: The Rehab. Known for songs including “Bring the Pain,” “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By,” and “How High,” he also achieved success with Redman. Method Man earned a Grammy and developed an acting career in film and television in The Wire, Oz, and Power Book II: Ghost.
