Lusajo Israel, better known as Sajo, is a foundation architect of the Tanzanian Bongo Flava movement. His musical origins trace back to Makongo Secondary School in Dar es Salaam, where he first began collaborating with fellow students Ferooz and Critic. This creative core eventually expanded to include Daz Baba and La Rumba, forming the legendary collective “Daz Nundaz.” Operating out of the influential Bongo Records studio, the group became a dominant force in the early 2000s urban music scene.
Sajo was a driving force behind the group’s landmark 2001 album, "Kamanda," contributing his signature lyrical style to timeless hits like "Barua" and "Maji Ya Shingo." His artistic identity was deeply intertwined with the Sewer Side street culture, which emphasized authentic social commentary over polished pop trends. Today, he is respected as a pioneer who helped transform gritty, street-level rap into a mainstream regional phenomenon.
