BioDUSTdevils are a noise rock band formed in the mid-1980s around the creative partnership of British expatriate vocalist and guitarist Michael Duane and Australian-born singer and bassist Jaqi Dulany. Together they developed the group’s abrasive, guitar-driven sound, which became the defining feature of its identity from the earliest recordings.
The band first released music through the Rouska label, establishing a reputation for uncompromising noise rock and experimental songwriting. After relocating across the Atlantic, DUSTdevils expanded their lineup with bassist Mark Ibold and drummer Reed and recorded the 1989 single “Is Big Leggy” for Teen-Beat Records, a label closely associated with independent and alternative artists. Their known catalog includes “Struggling Electric and Chemical,” a recording that captures the group’s raw energy, dense guitar textures, and intense rhythmic interplay. Collaborators on that project included Mark Ibold, Gerard Cosloy, and Sasha Frere-Jones, reflecting the band’s connections to the wider independent noise rock community.
