BioJan Jan Jan started as a joke on social media in April 2019 when comedian Donovan Goliath posted a photo of four men in khaki shorts and asked followers to name the group. The image went viral, and the trio – Riaan “Lang Jan” Venter, Heinrich “Klein Jan” Rautenbach, and Dylan “Mooi Jan” Emslie – officially formed later that year. Their debut single, “Wys Jou Vleis,” a cheeky, grill-themed anthem, quickly racked up hundreds of thousands of views.
Known as the “boere-boyband,” Jan Jan Jan celebrates Afrikaner farm culture with humor and party-ready songs, performing in khaki outfits and playful choreography. Hits like “Ek bly ’n boer,” “Gooi Mielies,” and “Lippe Teen Die Klippe” mix modern pop beats with nostalgic rural imagery. Signed to Sony/Select Musiek, the band has earned SAMA nominations and built a dedicated following, evolving from viral meme to cultural fixture in contemporary Afrikaans music.
