BioTLC emerged from Atlanta in 1990 and became one of the most influential female groups in R&B, combining soul, hip-hop, pop, and new jack swing with bold lyrics about relationships, independence, sexuality, and social issues. Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas established their identity with “Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip,” in 1992 before reaching global success with “CrazySexyCool” in 1994. The diamond-certified album produced major hits including “Creep” and “Waterfalls” and established TLC as international stars. “FanMail” followed in 1999, producing the number-one singles “No Scrubs” and “Unpretty” and earning further Grammy recognition.
After Lopes died in 2002, Watkins and Thomas continued as a duo rather than replacing her. Their later work included the self-titled “TLC” album in 2017, while their legacy includes four Grammy Awards, multiple MTV Video Music Awards, and induction into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame.
