BioWeird Together is a New Zealand-based multicultural music collective known for blending electronic dance music with African, Caribbean, Latin American, and Pacific musical traditions. The project was founded by Tokyo-based New Zealand broadcaster and DJ Nick Dwyer alongside Auckland producer Dick “Magik J” Johnson, initially emerging as a studio collaboration inspired by obscure global dance records and diasporic rhythms.
Over time, the project evolved into a large live ensemble featuring performers from diverse cultural backgrounds, including South Sudanese vocalist Karima Madut, Nigerian percussionist Mavs Adegbite, Cuban MC Yonier Cuevas Vega, and Caribbean steel pan musicians. Their sound combines house, calypso, Afrobeat, highlife, soca, and electronic grooves with live brass instrumentation and percussion-heavy arrangements.
Weird Together gained international recognition through releases on respected labels including Soundway Records and Feel Up Records, while also becoming known for energetic festival performances across New Zealand and Australia.
