Beginnings
Babalwa M, born Babalwa Mavuso, known for her soulful and evocative voice, began her musical journey in Johannesburg. From a young age, she was deeply influenced by the rich sounds of South African jazz and gospel, which shaped her unique vocal style.
On the other hand, Thato Ledwaba Kevin, otherwise known as Kelvin Momo, grew up in Soweto immersed in the burgeoning Amapiano scene. His early years were spent experimenting with beats and honing his skills as a producer and DJ, influenced by the sounds of kwaito, deep house, and jazz.

Babalwa M started in the church choir, then as a journalist before kicking off music career full-time in 2020. The same year she featured on some tracks on Kelvin Momo’s album, Momo's Private School. In August, the duo collaborated to release a 7-track EP, “Bayeke.” The EP was a major success for the duo with Babalwa M’s hauntingly beautiful vocals with Kelvin Momo’s intricate Amapiano beats, revealing a rich blend of South African sounds. The duo earned more recognition not just in South Africa but also on international platforms. Following Bayeke’s success, Babalwa M released her debut album, "Aluta Continua” in 2021.
Meanwhile, Kelvin Momo's journey into music began in the vibrant streets of Soweto at a very young age, showing a keen interest in music production. Kelvin began experimenting with beats, gradually developing his skills and creating his signature sound and several hits such as Ska Bhaile, Mang Dakiwe, and Dakiwe. In 2020, Kelvin released his debut album, “Momo's Private School,” featuring other artists.
Aside from the collaboration, Kelvin Momo was not relenting on his oars. He went ahead to release personal projects such as Ivy League (2021), Amukelani (2022), and Kurhulah (2023), among others.
