Kenyan DJ, performer, and producer Blinky Bill, also known as Bill Sellanga, finally released his much-anticipated third studio album, "We Cut Keys 2," on January 26, 2024. The album consists of 16 tracks that showcase Blinky Bill's unique style, marking a triumphant comeback for one of Kenya's trailblazers in alternative music. It also highlights his distinctive evolution and musical prowess.

The opening track of the album, "Black on the Keyboard," showcases the collaboration with Nairobi-based legendary UK Grime emcee, Mikel Ameen. Driven by a gritty beat and a fast-paced baseline, the song exudes infectious energy, complemented by Mikel's vivid lyrical delivery reminiscent of UK Grime.

The next two songs, "Mtaona Nikipaa" and "Dracula," are lively ballads that blend upbeat rhythms with themes of personal ambition. While "Dracula" uses allegory to explore the universal quest for prosperity, "Mtaona Nikipaa" displays unwavering self-confidence. Notably, one of the lyrics that emphasizes this aspiration is "We live around the block, but we are not from around the block."

"Remedy" explores an ineffable love and features Kenyan producer Emawk, who was born in the United States. His soft synths go well with Blinky Bill's skillful vocals. Bill sings heartfelt words about his sentiments and a deep desire for an unidentified person.

"Get That Paper," is a story about how hard work is necessary to attain achievement that is rightfully yours. It sets itself apart with a deft snippet of a dynamic sermon delivered by well-known Kenyan televangelist Pius.

"Ajigo Township Funk," is much more experimental, with a funky, slow-moving vibe mixed with an unpredictable quality. A distinctively varied listening experience is produced by the surprising addition of hissy cymbals, which contrast with the song's dominant bassline and fast dance speed.

On "Bon Voyage," Blinky Bill teams up with Accra-based producer Rvdical the Kid and the vocally talented Shakka. The song excels in the singers' smooth creative synergy as they alternate between verses, even above its alluring beat.

Afrobeats' complex drum-driven rhythm is mirrored in "Constant K," which features rapper and vocalist Fuse ODG, who is English-Ghanaian. With its heartfelt lyrics, the captivating song keeps up a steady intensity spike for the whole two minutes and 22 seconds, enticing listeners to start dancing.

The album ends fittingly with "Voice Of Kenya," an instrumental track that highlights the exceptional talent of Owuor Arunga, a Kenyan Jazz Trumpeter based in New York. His mastery of the brass instrument is evident in the track. Blinky Bill's expertise in incorporating woodwind instruments into his music complements Arunga's performance seamlessly.
