Jairus Ditshotlo Nkwe, known as Jakarumba, is closely linked to the rise of kwaito through his role in Trompies. Raised in Soweto, he became part of a movement that reflected township life through music, dance, and street culture. Within the group, his voice and stage presence made him a recognisable figure during kwaito’s peak years.
Alongside Trompies, he released solo material. In 2002, he put out “Problem Child,” a project rooted in everyday township realities, delivered largely in isiZulu. A decade later, he followed with “Dance Floor Commander,” a 14-track release centred on party-driven themes and social connection through music.
His work consistently draws from lived experience, focusing on relatable themes rather than distant storytelling. Beyond recording, he has also explored business interests while maintaining ties to music culture. His career reflects long-term involvement in kwaito, both as a group member and as an individual artist.
