Bio
Mlindo the Vocalist was born Lindokuhle Mgedeza in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, into a large family with 17 siblings. From age four, he sang in his church choir, and his upbringing in KwaZulu-Natal strongly shaped his identity and music. He briefly studied for a Bachelor of Education at the University of Zululand but left in 2018 to pursue music full-time. His Zulu heritage, family stories, and life experiences inform his emotive, warm vocal delivery. Mlindo’s rise crystallized between 2017 and 2018 after years of local performances and social media covers. A stripped-down rendition of DJ Maphorisa’s “Midnight Starring” drew industry attention, followed by his win at the Golden Search competition in Richards Bay in 2017. His breakout single “AmaBlesser” (2018) went four-times platinum, anchoring his debut album "Emakhaya," which fused Afropop, Afro-soul, house, and alternative R&B, earning multiple SAMA nominations and producing other charting singles like “Macala.”
