The Nkengas were a Nigerian highlife band that was founded in 1973 during a London tour.

The group was a breakaway from Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe's Nigerian Soundmakers, and they decided to remain in the city to record an original album called Destruction the same year.

They also released a tape previously recorded with Osadebe under the name Nkangas in London.

After their stay in London, the Nkengas returned to Nigeria and re-formed as the Ikenga Super Stars of Africa.

The band line-up were George Atomba, Linus Opara, Pele Asampete, and the band leader, Chief Vincent Okoroego.

Despite the band's short existence, which was about eleven years, the Nkengas left an indelible mark on West African music, and their legacy continues to influence and inspire highlife musicians in Nigeria and beyond.
