BioSewa Side (also known as Sewer Side) is an influential Tanzanian hip-hop collective and urban subculture that emerged from the Temeke district of Dar es Salaam. Rising to prominence in the late 1990s, the group became a defining pillar of the Bongo Records stable, operating under the guidance of producer P-Funk Majani. The name "Sewer Side" was chosen to represent their gritty, underground identity and their commitment to narrating the raw, often harsh realities of street life in Tanzania.
The collective’s core was composed of the legendary group Daz Nundaz, featuring Sajo, Ferooz, Daz Baba, and Critic. They were frequently joined by affiliates like Ali Com and Scout Jentaz, most notably on the classic anthem "Nipe Tano." By blending hardcore rap with authentic social commentary, Sewa Side helped transform the "Golden Era" of Bongo Flava into a respected cultural movement, proving that street-level storytelling could achieve mainstream success.
